The brief
A contractor had been awarded the low-current package on a large manufacturing facility and needed the full design produced against a fixed programme. Six systems, one building, and a tender BOQ that already had prices attached to it.
What we did
We designed all six systems with one team rather than splitting them by discipline, which is the difference that made the eleven-week programme possible. Containment routes, equipment room layouts, rack allocations and power supplies to ELV panels were resolved once for all systems, not negotiated between six separate designers.
The fire alarm design drove the coordination sequence, because detector and sounder coverage is the least flexible constraint in the building. Everything else routed around a fixed fire alarm layout.
Delivery notes
Because the tender BOQ was already priced, quantity drift was the commercial risk. We reconciled the delivered BOQ against the layouts, the risers and the cable schedules line by line before issue, and flagged the seven items where the design required more than the tender allowance, with the reasoning attached to each. The contractor took those seven to the client as a documented variation rather than absorbing them.
Two formal review cycles, both returned and closed within the agreed week.
