The brief

A retail chain was rolling out a refreshed store concept across 23 locations and wanted the ELV design standardized. Previously each store had been designed independently by whichever local contractor won the fit-out, which produced 23 different equipment lists and no consistent way to support the estate.

What we did

We reduced the estate to three store formats by floor area and layout type, then built a design template for each: fixed camera positions relative to till lines and entrances, a standard rack build, a fixed cable schedule structure, and one equipment kit list per format.

Individual stores were then produced from the template against their actual floor plan, which is where the per-site effort dropped to under three days.

Delivery notes

The standardization argument won on procurement, not design. A single kit list across 23 stores gave the client a volume negotiation they did not previously have, and it made the support contract simple to scope because every store contains the same hardware.

Drawings were issued in batches that followed the construction sequence, so the fit-out contractor never waited on design and we were never drawing stores that had slipped.
